Michigan Government Television (MGTV) is a non-partisan cable television network that provides live and taped coverage of all branches of Michigan Government without commentary, analysis or editing for content, which means that viewers see everything on the record.
We provide elected and appointed officials and others who would influence public policy a direct conduit to the audience without filtering or distorting their points of view.  MGTV was created by cable and receives its primary funding from Comcast, Charter Communications, Bright House Networks, Broadstripe and Time Warner Cable.

Transparency is Our Mission

Michigan Government Television (MGTV) is a 501 (C) 3, non-profit corporation, created in 1996 through a unique partnership between state government and the cable industry. We are not a state government agency and receive no tax dollars for revenue.

Our mission is to provide Michigan citizens access to state government proceedings by employing production values that accurately convey the business of government without distracting from it; and to conduct all other aspects of its operations consistent with these principles.

Weekly Schedule

The programming schedule is created on a weekly basis.  Due to last minute schedule changes for live legislative sessions and Supreme Court oral arguments, it can frequently change without notice.  Occasionally, time sensitive programming will pre-empt regularly scheduled events.  Because MGTV is committed to airing all events in their entirely, programs over 4 hours in length may air over multiple days or will air in a complete form on a future date. All programs that air on MGTV are archived and available for purchase.
 
 

Support MGTV

Michigan Government TV (MGTV) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 corporation, independent of state government. Maintaining and operating a statewide cable network that is non-commercial by design can be a challenge.  Now, more than ever, Michigan citizens want oversight of decisions that affect their lives.  There are many ways to support the MGTV network and it’s mission to provide and expand coverage of state government. MGTV offers underwriting opportunities for some of its programs and donations are tax deductible.
 
 

Educational Resources

Part of MGTV’s mission is to offer schools unique tools to help students better understand state government.  There are videos of state government proceedings for viewing.  Our two documentaries, “Oh, Could They But Speak: The History and Importance of Michigan’s Civil War Battle Flags” and “Defining Moments: Frank Murphy, Fred Korematsu and the Internment of Japanese Americans During World War II” illustrate the intersection of history and current affairs.  The latter is a Beacon Award winner-a distinctive honor from the National Cable Television Public Affairs Association.
 
 

Our Programming

MGTV provides programming that is fair, accurate, balanced and without regard to partisanship or ideology. MGTV’s coverage is intended to offer viewers access to unedited government deliberations.  In addition to coverage of legislative proceedings, Supreme Court oral arguments, the governor’s press conferences, state board of education meetings and the like, we also cover public policy conferences, speeches by national and state leaders and forums held by our state’s colleges and universities.  All original programming, all the time.
